By Car:
Driving is the most popular way to navigate College Station, and the good news is that traffic is usually light compared to bigger Texas cities. Major routes through town include State Highway 6, Texas Avenue, University Drive, and George Bush Drive, all of which connect the major destinations across the city.
Rental cars are available at Easterwood Airport as well as several locations throughout town. Heads up for game day visitors: traffic around Kyle Field and Wellborn Road can get heavy a few hours before kickoff and during postgame, so plan to arrive early or hang around for dinner afterward.
For real-time road conditions, construction updates, and weather alerts, check DriveTexas.org before heading out.
Rideshare & Taxi:
Uber and Lyft both operate throughout College Station and are typically the easiest way to get around if you'd rather not drive... especially after a Northgate night out or a winery visit. Rideshare pickups are available at Easterwood Airport, hotels, restaurants, and event venues.
Local taxi services are also available; your hotel concierge can recommend a trusted operator.
Texas A&M Transportation:
Visiting campus? Texas A&M's Aggie Spirit bus system runs an extensive network of routes both on and off campus. While most off-campus routes are designed for students, faculty and staff with a valid Texas A&M or Blinn College ID, visitors are welcome to explore campus on foot, by Veo bike or scooter or by parking at one of the visitor parking garages and walking to their destination.
For game day fans, Texas A&M offers shuttle services from designated parking lots to Kyle Field, a great way to skip the traffic and tailgate stress-free. Game day parking and shuttle info is updated each season at transport.tamu.edu.
Brazos Transit District (The District):
The Brazos Transit District — known locally as "The District" — operates fixed-route public buses across Bryan-College Station, with service running roughly 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Routes connect shopping centers, residential neighborhoods, hospitals and key spots around town. It's an affordable option for travelers staying longer or looking to explore beyond campus. View routes, schedules and fares at btd.org.
Bikeshare & Scooters:
For a fun, eco-friendly way to zip around campus and the surrounding area, hop on a Veo bike or seated e-scooter. Texas A&M has partnered with Veo to offer more than 1,800 pedal bikes and throttle e-bikes available to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Just download the Veo app, locate a ride nearby, and unlock with a quick scan.
A few quick rules to know before you ride:
- Stay within the geofenced service area (visible in the app), which covers campus and adjacent areas of College Station
- Park only at designated bike racks or approved parking zones
- Lock your bike to a rack to end your ride - failure to do so can result in fines
Get the app and rental info at veoride.com/texas-am.
Parking:
Parking in College Station is generally easy and affordable, a welcome change from bigger cities. You'll find ample free and paid parking at hotels, shopping centers like Century Square and most restaurants and attractions.
For visits to Texas A&M campus, paid visitor parking is available at several garages including the Cain Garage, University Center Garage, and West Campus Garage. You can pay by the hour or purchase a daily pass through Texas A&M Transportation Services. Game day and special event parking has separate rules - be sure to check transport.tamu.edu/parking before you arrive.
For visits to the Historic Northgate District, the city operates the Northgate Parking Garage on College Main Street with hourly and daily rates.

Trip Planning Basics
Q: When is the best time of year to visit College Station?
A: College Station is a year-round destination, but each season has its own draw. Fall is football season - the city comes alive with game day energy from September through November. Spring brings perfect weather, wildflowers along the highways and big campus events like Ring Day and Muster. Summer is quieter and great for families, with longer days for exploring outdoor spots like Stephen C. Beachy Central Park and Lick Creek Park. Winter is mild and ideal for travelers who want a relaxed pace and easier hotel availability.
Q: How many days do I need to visit College Station?
A: Obviously you are welcome to stay as long as you like, but if you have limited time, a weekend (2–3 days) is plenty of time to experience the highlights: campus, the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, the Historic Northgate District and a great meal or two. If you're coming for a football game, plan for at least three days to enjoy tailgating, the game and post-game traditions. Longer stays let you branch out to area wineries, our sister city, Bryan, and all the other things our city has to offer.
Q: Is College Station a good destination for families?
A: Absolutely. With kid-friendly attractions like the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History, Aggieland Safari, Santa's Wonderland (seasonal) and plenty of parks and splash pads, families find lots to love here. Many hotels are family-friendly and the city's walkable, small town/big city vibe makes it easy to get around with kids in tow.
Game Day & Big Events
Q: How early should I arrive for a Texas A&M football game?
A: Most fans arrive 3 to 5 hours before kickoff to find parking, set up tailgates and soak in the pregame atmosphere. If it's your first time at Kyle Field, getting there early is part of the experience! Aggie traditions like Yell Practice the night before and the Spirit Walk before kickoff are must-sees.
Q: Are hotels harder to book during game weekends?
A: Yes — hotels in College Station up quickly for home football weekends, graduation, Ring Day, Parents' Weekend and other major Texas A&M events. We recommend booking as soon as the game schedule is released (typically several months in advance). Two-night minimum stays are common during these weekends.
Q: What's the dress code for game day?
A: Maroon, maroon, and more maroon. Aggies show up in maroon shirts, polos, dresses, and game day gear. Comfortable shoes are a must... there's a lot of walking between parking, tailgates and the stadium. Check the forecast: Texas weather can swing from hot to chilly, sometimes in the same day.
Pro tip: Clear bags are required in all stadiums and fields on campus! Learn more about TAMU's clear bag policy here.
Q: Can I reserve a parking spot on game days?
A: Reservations can be made at parkmobile.io or in the ParkMobile app. Sports and events will appear on ParkMobile as they become available. Save money and your peace of mind by reserving ahead of time - thank us later!
